The Wickwar Wednesday Walking Group visited the church this week and took a great interest in the work in progress as well as other memorials in the churchyard.
Alsop memorial - This memorial did not require much attention. The lettering has been cleaned and refreshed and in that process some inscriptions not noticed by many observers have been revealed.
Hillier memorial - This memorial is the heaviest memorial in the church. It has serious cracking in the back panel and front facing marble so it has to be removed from the wall in numerous pieces. The main central fixing of the top section has rusted badly and appears to have been the main element causing the most damage. It can be seen in the early parts of this video. The lower part of the top section to which the carved figure elements are attached was found to be in one piece making it very heavy and difficult to handle. Once removed, fixings of the marble figure and associated elements to the panel were visible. There are 11 fixings - all iron - which will have to be replaced. Check the progress of this major job in next week's progress page.

Frankcom memorial - This memorial has been removed form the wall and cleaning and repair work is in progress. The top panel has a very thin veneer of marble on a Bath stone backing panel. The veneer has cracked off in numerous places and all available pieces have been fitted together leaving some spaces to be filled and finished to match the surrounding marble veneer where it will not be covered by the facing pieces. This memorial has many parts all of which have been identified and positions recorded ready for reconstruction.
